Step into the world of the infamous 17th century physician, Dr George Rae with this A3 Plague Doctor Print. Created exclusively for The Real Mary King's Close by Edinburgh-based artist, Ross MacRae.
The print showcases the doctor's unique leather costume that he made to create a barrier between himself and the plague. On the end of his staff, he swings a pomander. Because it was believed that people could contract the disease by breathing in contaminated air, physicians typically advised their patients to carry pomanders in order to dispel the "miasmas" (bad smells) in the air.
Little did anyone know, at the time, that the plague was really caused by flea bites instead! Add a touch of intrigue to any room with this beautiful artwork. Supplied rolled.
