Edinburgh-based artist, Ross MacRae, creates his artwork using charcoal sketches and digital composition. This print was inspired by The Real Mary King's Close, and depicts the old town of Edinburgh, nicknamed Auld Reekie, meaning "old smoky" due to the thick smoke from coal fires that were burned inside the tenements. The print also features the phrase "Gardyloo", which was a warning cry used by Edinburgh's residents before disposing of their sewage.
